The worldwide press conference for FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM took place in New York City a few das ago, and Ezra was in attendance along with JK Rowling, David Yates, David Heyman and the film’s cast. When asked about his character, Credence Barebone, Ezra said “I guess you could say that Credence is sort of the aged child of violence. He’s grown up partially in a foster home, in which he still lives, and in a community where there’s a prerogative to stamp out a certain idea of what is abnormal. And the rub lies in the fact that Credence himself is abnormal. And so, as a result, he’s subject to a lot of violence and sort of a violent form of indoctrination. And I guess the character is sort of an exploration of the result of trauma. Or it could also be stated more simply like he’s just a kid who hasn’t been loved, or seen, or cherished for who he is”.
